Foster Grandparent Program

Mitchell Elementary is excited about working with Foster Grandparents.

The Foster Grandparent Program (FGP), is a federally-funded program that places senior citizens in schools to work with at-risk or exceptional children on a volunteer basis.  This program was established in 1965 by President Johnson as a “war on poverty” project to assist older Americans on fixed incomes.  We have had the FGP program here at the Charleston Area Senior Center since 1971.
